My Art
After watching our four kids grow into adults, attending seminary, and co-teaching in a preschool class for Grand Rapids Public Schools, I am once again playing in the mud and loving it. |
Beginning My Life as a Potter
I was like most kids when I was growing up. Playing in the dirt was almost a daily affair. Also, like most kids, I grew out of that stage spending more and more time in school and reading. Very little time was left for sand and dirt toys, and so they sat quietly in a closet collecting dust. Beginning in elementary school, drawing became a part of my life. As got older I studied some of the old artists and listened to classical music. When it came time for college I had two choices - math or art. I chose art and that is where it all started. I graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in Art, with a minor in Drawing and Design, with an emphasis in pottery, along , with a teaching certificate and...and one child. Raising four children and working full-time in employee development for a office manufacturing company put pottery on hold for a while. |
My hope as a potter is that my work will delight your eyes and your spirit. I prefer color rather than earth tones. And though my hope is to make pottery that is functional and ergonomic, I strive to make each each piece unique in color, size, shape, or tilt. That's the way I like it - no two alike.
